→The replica caves are genuinely extraordinary — not a consolation prize. Book morning slots on weekdays to avoid coach parties. Children are often more moved than adults.
→Silver Beach is only accessible by foot or longtail boat. Before 8am it's completely empty. The water is clear and shallow — perfect for children and nervous swimmers.
→Lamai's night market is smaller, less touristy and the food is better. Try the pad see ew stall run by a mother and daughter — third from the left at the entrance.
→Perched above the Dordogne river, Domme has one of the finest viewpoints in Southwest France. Go late afternoon when the light falls across the valley.
→The temple complex on the north shore is best visited at first light, before the tour boats arrive. Bring an offering and take your shoes off — even on the outside steps.
